CORINTH TO HOST 2026 CITIZENS PUBLIC SAFETY ACADEMY

CORINTH, TX, February 24, 2026 – The City of Corinth is now accepting applications for the 2026 Citizens Public Safety Academy (CPSA), a 12-week educational program designed to strengthen partnerships between public safety agencies and the community.

The academy will begin Tuesday, March 24, 2026, and concludes with a graduation on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Classes will be held Tuesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Facility located at 3501 FM 2181 Suite A, Corinth, TX 76210.

The Citizens Public Safety Academy offers participants a behind-the -scenes look at the daily operations of the Corinth Police Department and the Lake Cities Fire Department. The program promotes communication, enhances community awareness, and builds stronger relationships between residents and public safety personnel.

The academy is offered at no cost to participants. Individuals who are 18 years of age or older and who live or work in Corinth, Shady Shores, Hickory Creek, or Lake Dallas are eligible to apply, provided they meet the requirements outlined in the application.

Comprehensive Public Safety Education
The police department portion of the academy provides a comprehensive overview of law enforcement operations and highlights the important role citizens play in crime prevention and community safety. Topics include arrest procedures, search and seizure laws, evidence handling, criminal investigations, traffic enforcement, identity theft, and family law. Instruction is led by members of the Corinth Police Department, along with representatives from outside agencies. Participants will also take part in hands-on demonstrations and scenario-based learning activities designed to provide practical insight into police work.

The fire department portion of the academy offers participants a behind-the-scenes look at emergency response operations. Attendees will learn about fire and life safety practices and gain hands-on experience using rescue equipment such as hydraulic cutters, spreaders, rams, and air bags. Participants will take part in a simulated vehicle extrication exercise and experience firefighter training inside a live training facility while wearing bunker gear. All activities are conducted under the supervision of trained firefighters to ensure a safe learning environment.

Academy participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a ride along, providing a firsthand look at emergency response services and the vital role firefighters play in serving the community.

  • Week 8: Denton County Communications Center Tour and Jail Tour
  • Week 9: Criminal Investigations
  • Week 10: Lake Cities Burn Demonstration
  • Week 11: Firearms
  • Week 12: Graduation
