The City of Corinth regulates solicitation, peddling, and itinerant merchants through Chapter 111 – Solicitation Ordinance.

This ordinance:

  • Establishes clear permitting requirements
  • Defines acceptable conduct for solicitors
  • Protects residents’ rights and privacy
  • Ensures consistent enforcement

The ordinance was last comprehensively updated to align with current state statutes and best practices. 

Permit Requirements

All solicitors must obtain a permit before operating in the City of Corinth.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed permit application
    • Must be submitted in person at the Corinth Police Department: 3501 FM 2181, Corinth, TX 76210
  • Background check for:
    • Applicant
    • Each individual soliciting under the permit
  • Payment of applicable fees

Permits must be approved before any solicitation activity begins.

Resident Rights: No Solicitation

Residents have the right to control whether solicitation is allowed on their property.

  • Posting an approved “No Solicitation” sign serves as legal notice
  • Solicitors must comply immediately when such notice is present

Prohibited Activities

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Soliciting without a permit
  • Failing to display required identification
  • Soliciting where "No Solicitation" signage is posted
  • Soliciting:
    • Before 9 a.m.
    • After 7 p.m. or sunset (whichever comes first)
    • On Sundays or holidays
  • Soliciting in streets or medians
  • Approaching individuals in vehicles

Exemptions

The following are exempt from permit requirements:

  • Utility companies
  • State-licensed professionals (e.g., realtors, insurance agents)
  • Political organizations subject to state or federal disclosure laws
  • Vendors participating in City-sponsored events
  • Minors selling small items with permission (e.g., lemonade stands)

Enforcement & Penalties

Permits may be:

  • Denied
  • Suspended
  • Revoked

Violations may result in fines of up to $500. Authority for enforcement is designated to the Chief of Police.

Appeals Process

If a permit is denied or revoked:

  • The applicant may submit an appeal
  • Appeals are reviewed by the Office of the City Manager
